Level 2 home chargers typically need a dedicated 240V circuit. If your garage door opener shares an outlet or circuit with other equipment, it’s worth having an electrician confirm the opener has its own reliable power source separate from the new charger circuit, so a charger fault doesn’t take down your opener too.
Insulation Matters More With a Charger Running
If you’re charging overnight in an attached garage, a well-insulated, properly sealed garage door helps keep the space more temperature-stable, which can matter for charging efficiency in extreme cold. This is a reasonable moment to check your weatherstripping and consider whether an insulated door upgrade makes sense if you don’t already have one.
